Literary Analysis #1

TOPICS/EVENTS
1.      1.  A. The book I was reading was about many things. It was about the origins of both the Navy SEAL teams and Al Qaeda and also the plan they used to kill Osama Bin Laden. There was also a brief story about how SEAL Team 6 saved the captain of the ship Maersk Alabama from Somailian pirates. It was broken down into a 3 parts each with a few chapters the 3 things the book was about.
B.      My book was about the origin of the Navy SEAL teams as well as the origins of Al Qaeda. It was separated into 3 different parts about these previously stated items as well as the planning and execution of the plan to locate and eliminate SEAL Target Geronimo also known as Osama Bin Laden.
2.      2.   The author, Chuck Pfarrer, chose to write about this topic because he was in the Navy SEALs and he took part in many previous missions that were similar.  Pfarrer also wanted to inform the public on how the mission went on and what actually happened so the public wouldn't make wild stories about how Bin Laden was killed.
3.       3.  I chose this book because it just seemed interesting and I didn't have a clue about how the SEAL teams worked and now I know that they are really dedicated and are some of the best soldiers in the world. I read it all the way through because it was so cool learning about all of the crazy things some men have to go through to keep our nation the good safe place where we live.
4.      4.   I found it realistic and I thought that he provided good details about the missions and was very vivid. No it doesn't really relate to anyone I know because it is a very specific line of work and no one I know is involved in this specific job.

PEOPLE
1.      1.   In the book I read, yes there are multiple instances where Pfarrer used his personal observations.  One moment where he used his own interpretation was how he viewed the C.I.A and the F.B.I, he portrayed them both as organizations who said they were good and that they would always be there for the Special Forces when in reality they weren't very helpful and they were actually quite detrimental. His tone often comes off as negative towards those organizations.
2.       2.  One character that was significant throughout the story was the man who led the mission to kill Osama and is the current leader of SEAL Team 6 was Admiral Bill McRaven. He is described as a calm yet conservative man who is good with leading people and is also calm under pressure. I would also use indirect characterization like what is used in the book. Another character that had an important part in the story was Osama’s right hand man, Ayman al-Zawahiri. He was a short, extremely religious Muslim doctor whose wickedness and pure hatred towards all non-Muslim people helped develop and execute many terrorist attacks towards the U.S and its allies. If I were to make a fictional character similar to Zawahiri I would also use indirect characterization and I would describe as a man who seems like he was a quiet innocent man but is really a vicious psychopathic Jihad.
3.       3.  They are interesting enough to write about because they took apart in some of the most horrific tragedies within recent history. They also helped create the way the world works today in both good and bad ways.

STYLE
1.      1.   Yes, Pfarrer used many different types of tools from fictional writing. One tool that he used was foreshadowing. The whole book was an example of foreshadowing because he started the book out the day that the siege of Bin Laden happened and then went on to describes the origins of the SEAL Teams, Al Qaeda, and the plan to eliminate Bin Laden.
2.     2.    Pfarrer used more action and dialogue than lengthy descriptions. It affected the story by making it go a little faster and a little easier to read.
3.      3. He used an appeal to emotion to make the mood seem dark, dismal, and almost depressing. He created this by telling about all the tragic events the Jihad martyrs had put us through by killing many of innocent civilians and military men that were unarmed and not a threat.
4.       4.  He was proud of his country and especially proud of his former SEAL Team for doing such a good job serving our country protecting our freedom.
5.       5.  His interviews with the SEALs and firsthand accounts made me believe him and I think that he is 100% truthful about the events that occurred.

ENDURING MEMORY

There are 2 main ideas that will stick with me after I read the book. These were that men are willing to give up everything to keep us safe and then there are other men that are willing to give up their lives to make a man proud that many of them had never met and would never meet. The idea that will stick with me for a long time is what some of these men would go through to keep us safe. They are literally willing to give up their lives to let us live this happy and so carefree life. I know that only few men can do this job and how difficult it is but to me it is one of the most important jobs in the entire world. Another idea that will stay on my mind is that some people are willing to do anything just to please someone they have never met or even seen. Hundreds of jihad terrorists were willing to make the ultimate sacrifice to harm thousands of people they had never met just to make a man happy whom may have never even cared what they did as long as there were ways for that man to become more powerful within the world. This is just so shocking to me that men were willing to die for such a blasphemous cause.
